Re: Posts go the wrong way?

Looks like it is a reflection of how bottom-quoting has now almost completely replaced top-quoting in emailing. I've never liked that, but if everyone else around you complains how they don't like how you quote their emails, what are you to do...? <rant>Anyway, doesn't make sense to put it to use on...

Re: how much less server load will olympus utlise ?

Problem is that it is probably nigh on impossible to make any such generic statements about performance. A benchmark for a number of standard tests would probably be the best way to compare performance.

Re: Quote threshold limit?

I'm not saying phpBB should do anything (beyond maybe making the quote-button optional, but I think that'd be a simple matter of not adding it to your template :)) Yes, the quote-button does add some sugar on top of what average Joe User would use, but it's really not that complicated to manually ty...

Re: Quote threshold limit?

We'll see, maybe it's a solution. Maybe if it just takes away the button, because it's not that I want people to stop quoting, just would like to see them using it a bit more consciously (having to copy-paste bits of text and placing quote-tags manually will probably do the trick :))

Re: Quote threshold limit?

A quote nesting limit doesn't solve the problem I am seeing, which is users just abusing the quote-button as a reply-button, without taking any care as to whether the quote they are inserting into their post that way, actually has any added value for their post (simply leaving a copy of a complete p...

Re: WHY do people ask about phpBB3 so much?

The question is, how many people get on here with that same question, do some research first, and find out that asking is useless. I honestly hope that is many, many more and that this is just the 0,1% or so of people that (trying to be a polite as possible here) never learned how to properly use a ...

Re: honestly..

WRT to support, I would say a branch with a name that doesn't suggest an immediate relation to phpbb would go a long way in solving that. If people use a product called phpBB-something-or-other, at least a fair number of them would assume they need to go to http://www.phpbb.com." target="_blank If i...

Re: New Karma System (Theory)

The term karma wasn't chosen here, it is used on many other sites. It is called so because karma is something ungraspable, but you can have a lot of it, which is good, and not so much, which is not so good :) I think the word was historically chosen because there is no connection to a concrete conce...

Re: Download

Looks like you don't have the actual CVS executables installed (since WinCVS complains it can't find the executable). For the latest WinCVS versions, you need to install CVSNT. The installer should do that automatically, though.

Re: Question: what so bad about bug reports?

Code reader, the point is, there are probably many more* people like you, who will also spot the same bug. And because of the nature of unfinished code, "bugs" will be fairly easy to spot and there is going to be a *LOT* to report, by many people. Sifting through hunderds of (more than likely) the s...
