It looks broken.

I'm a Java programmer. I just got my first php book today! :D
You should find going from Java to PHP pretty easy - the syntax is pretty similar aside from foreach loops and accessing objects (-> instead of .). Going from PHP to Java was harder for me - getting used to explicitly typed variables ...

I can program in PHP, Java, and C# (to a lesser extent), and am doing a degree in Computer Science. There's also a difference in being able to whack out the odd PHP script, and actually being able to program to a decent standard where you write efficient and coherent code.

I recall this being something to do with the session management (or was it search indexing?) in phpBB2 - I don't know if this is still the case.

Like I say, we'll see. it may be needed, it may not. Time & testing will tell.

I am expecting quite a few bugs to be reported with the change to UTF-8, so that is where I am coming from on the B4 idea. :)
(though if we have a B4 and there are not major changes like we have in the past with betas, it should go very fast before it gets to RC)

Even though they could have the next one RC1, I kinda doubt it will be(after the UTF-8 changes). Bugs get reported until many critical ones are fixed, Beta 4 comes out, very few new bugs are noticed because no new major changes(at least none that I know of), then RC1 comes out. ;)
