I personally don't like those dropwdowns at all. And the one at XenForo displays the forum title in the dropdown... why would they do that when the title is already on the left... it's so ugly...

Although I'm mostly fine with displaying only level 1, I believe there would be forum cases where I ...

What is the practice that others have followed? IPB, XenForo, vBulletin, SMF, MyBB etc. Some people may consider it a nice feature to display all the subforums in the legend, so if other vendors offer it, then we shouldn't take it away.

Is this RFC about adding a new option to control the display ...

In my opinion we should think of how to move " Mark forums read ", " Mark subforums read " and " Mark topics read " out of the way while maintaining their functionality. Perhaps replace them with icons and tooltips or idk what else...

Hmm you are right I guess.

Well, simply think of whether it would be ok to have it in a commented line preceded by some notes and perhaps a warning (otherwise let's move this to the "rejected" section?).

Yes, like I said, in 3.0 it was required. This board runs on 3.1
