One feature that I saw recently in vBulletin is usage of AJAX for editing posts. No page reloading. Sweet!
And yes, I agree with jimmygoon. phpBB 3 is feature frozen. Yes, we know that... who cares? People are just discussing board features, not making formal feature suggestions to the developers ...

Re: Community moderation
Agree, but that's why the limit should be set high, that way the odd user that doesn't agree with something while the rest do, won't make much of a difference. Power would be in the numbers. About trusting the mods, you're right. I do trust mine.

Re: Community moderation
What I meant was that with a system like that, moderators wouldn't be invulnerable. If they go over the line and they're not being just (and they could, admins can't bee looking over moderators ALL the time), then users would have a way of complaining about it.

Re: Community moderation
"What good would ranking posts do?", you say? Well the rating system would be an excellent guide for moderators, providing pointers and bringing their attention where it's most needed. As I said before, flagging posts for deletion, rather than deleting them altogether. Posts should never just ...

Re: Community moderation
Do you have an example a community where this system is working?
As I mentioned before, http://www.slashdot.org" target="_blank is one of the biggest and oldest computer science communities and it works on such a system.
Now, you're all talking about "karma" and the problems it might bring. The ...

Re: Community moderation
I do think it would be a good idea to give negative votes. It would help identify and eventually disuade trolls, spammers, and just plain lame posters. Or, even better, motivate them to become better posters.
About post count, IMO, it should never be taken into account for positive points. Why ...

Re: Community moderation
Plus, as I said, you'd get a very limited number of posts at first. If you have 5 votes to spend during the day, you're gonna use them to rate only extreme posts that cause an impression on you, in a good or bad way. So you're not going to be rating every single thing you read.

Re: Community moderation
Well, not really. Maybe the guy swore at you, but not at other 80 users. Maybe the guy mispelled Egyptians and that bothers you, but maybe that'll only bother you and other 4 people. One vote won't make a big difference. Now, if 200 people voted negatively on a particular post, then there must be ...

Community moderation
Hi.. I was discussing the future of my site and community with a developer that's helping me out. I've been using phpBB 2 for 3 years and was planning to redesign my whole site and make it more automatic and dynamic, and I was also planning on migrating to phpBB 3 once it's done.
Now, we started ...

Re: phpBB version 30.0.0
Just thought of a good one:
Topic IQ Detector: detects and calculates the average IQ of the users posting in the topic and displays it next to each topic title. Threads that fail to meet the average intelligence quota get closed.
