I don't think that we'll have to wait longer, as long as your bug is a non-critical one. They wouldn't have set the "Version number bug" to Fix in progress, if they were expecting another critical bug report coming up.

Unless you're willing ( AND ABLE ) to derive and perform the schema changes by hand you're better off to wait until RC1 and not try any CVS snapshots until RC2 etc. In other words, if you aren't pretty comfortable with PHP code and SQL, you're probably getting in way over your head to use a CVS ...

Yes. Grab a beta, or better yet, a recent CVS copy, install, and test, test, test.
