Re: RSS & Syndication
If not demand, then what would be the driving force for adding a new feature? Just because it can be done? What's the definition of a valuable feature?

Re: RSS & Syndication
Hi Martin,
With all due respect and please don't take this as an aggression, but just because RSS is not useful for Martin doesn't mean that it is not useful for a good number of other folks. By looking at this thread, I think it is very clear that many folks are interested in this feature. So the ...

Your thinking is tool oriented, not idea-oriented, in my opinion. Since the development of phpBB 3.0, the notion of what online communities are has been extended and refined. Yes, discussion forums form communities, but they are not the only way ...

Re: Olympus. A BB-CMS?
I think the motto of phpBB should not be "creating communities" because "communities" can be very general. It should instead be "creating forums".
The difference is that "communities" is a concept, an idea, a goal that needs a solution. "Forums" on the other hand is a tool.

Re: RSS & Syndication
RSS has alot of uses. Unless everything about your community is about chatting, then there's no need for RSS. But not everything in some community is about chatting.

Re: Is this the new future phpbb?
Easier said than done, and not to under-appreciate the efforts put into this project, but the fact that (1) it takes 4-5 years to roll out one version and (2) 2.2 = 3.0 , together mean that some reorganization in developing phpBB must be considered for phpBB to be competitive.

Re: Dissecting SubSilver
There's something called inertia, and those who are involved in lasting projects should be very well aware of it. There are things that are not quite technical errors but redundant, and these things tend to last for ever until it becomes part of you and it'll take forever to fix it -- despite it ...
