What kind of redesign efforts are you referring to? Most AJAX functionality would work perfectly just written into a template without touching the core code.
I was referring to some of the feature requests/ideas concerning phpBB's support for AJAX that I recently talked about with other phpBB ...

I was wondering if Olympus will have some kind of AJAX integration like it's available in the new vB Beta. It's kind of useful (to be honest, I think they've gone a bit too far with AJAX features), and I haven't seen it in the CVS yet. Are there plans to implement it for 3.0 or is ...

Apart from that, vph has composed a very nice and objective posting, while I don't necessarily share the idea that it might be good to add all sorts of things to a forum, vph's latter postings was certainly refreshing to read, no trolling and annoyance that I could tell.

I do not know if this has been discussed or not. My searching was to no avail.
But...
My wife and I are writing a book with some friends using PHPBB as the pen and the paper.
When we are done, as opposed to letting an editor read 5000 posts, I would like to be able to export the entire contents ...

Reason is obvious: there is no sanity in troubleshooting code that is not finished. Understood.
