It is PROBABLY (read what I say once more, PROBABLY, not SURE ;)) possible to upgrade from versions as early as phpBB 2.0.4 (or was it 2.0.6), since there hasn't been any database-changes later... But, once more, I don't know. I just guess :lol:

No Db cghanges since 2.0.6 is corect, and I just ...

Pardon but there are no 'people', 99% of the time, a USER will be installing this on a hosted solution. Will the host say "Well, since you can't reap the benefits of such and such a function, I will upgrade the DB, which has other customer's data creating downtime and a chance of failure." In ...

No we can't provide a comparison at this time.

This hardware is of a reasonable spec, but at the same time, area51 is currently hosted on a machine that is also the DB server for one of the larger phpBB boards out there so is under a fair bit of load already.

And still I cant notice it being ...

nope, thats the words of satans, no work is needed to convert the holly phpBB, all will just work by the tusch of the holly insyall.

Its interesting to see the Olympus project get ready for the first beta. A couple of days ago I noticed that the forum had over 500 people online. I was thinking about the kind of hardware needed to sustain the kind of traffic I saw.

Well, I expect it to be before those hackers get into the current PHPBB and hack it to death like in Texas Chainsaw Massacure, but for now I would assume that the PHPBB team is doing everything in it's power to keep this board free for all, even if that means some delays. I mean, that's what ...
