Re: Make the index a modular portal

Seriously, though, does nobody else see that the Phpbb interface is a confusing mess that's only getting messier and messier? I really do think that the reason you can't see the problem is because you have been using it for so many years that you just can't see it any more. I once told a newb that ...

Re: Make the index a modular portal

That looks pretty reasonably organized to me.

I think what you are really saying is that you are used to it. When you look at that box the first time you tend to see five gibberish hyperlinks instead of thirteen. Being used to bad design does not make it good design!

OP I'm sorry but it a -50 ...

Re: Making Phpbb more functional

Well, obviously you could turn it off, but I think it should be on by default as it is in most other forums. Having no full quick reply was outdated back in phpbb 2, let alone phpbb 3. Finding a forum with no quick reply nowadays is rather like finding a website whose 'downloads' button sends you to ...

Re: Make the index a modular portal

In fact, you could even have it like this, depending how you like your forum. This image has all the admin and moderator links cut out, removing a lot of the clutter. The board style window could go on either side or be removed:

*Edit, I keep forgetting to remove the original row of hyperlinks for ...

Re: Make the index a modular portal

2 sidebars with irrelevant content distracting user from what matters - list of forums.

I should mention that this is basically a screenshot of a portal mod, it doesn't have to look like this. If you are worried about it being distracting I should point out that the current forum menu looks like ...

Re: Making Phpbb more functional

there is this pretty big un-ignorable review window with the last few posts of the topic when you click on the Reply button and it displays the message as it was originally posted.

I did mention this - it is backwards, inconvenient, and skips out the user's avatar panel. We really don't need the ...

Make the index a modular portal

Lets face it, the Index on phpbb is boring and almost completely non-functional. It has been host to some of the worst ideas ever to hit phpbb - including putting the login bar at the very BOTTOM of the page. It's almost like the designers of Phpbb have something against the most important ...

Re: Making Phpbb more functional

Thanks! :D just posting this very simple message involved me clicking on the 'full editor button' to insert the bbcode and smilies and then pressing back so I could read your message properly. I really think that if Phpbb made quick-reply into a full editor with a dynamic preview there would be no ...

Making Phpbb more functional

I'm not sure if I am in the right place, but I have some stuff I really want to get out in the open. This stuff is all based on complaints I have had from actual users to do with the basic way in which Phpbb functions. (Don't get me wrong, I like phpbb.) This is my beef:

Posting is too convoluted ...
