Well of course 2.x.x is better, and it's nice that people notice the improvements the developers have worked so hard to build into phpBB.

While 1.x.x had its shortcomings, I never thought that it sucked. It did the job pretty good. Naturally, many of us who use 2.x.x were happy 1.x.x users to start with.

I wish I had had a forum running some of the 1.x line - I've never managed to experiance a major version switch + the associated new features with phpBB yet

I remember first installing it ages ago, it took me and a friend forever to notice the "new topic" button at the top

PhpBB 2 is excellent compared to it, actually... it's excellent full stop!
