Whoah whoah whoah, calm down! I'm just relaying some experiences my freinds have had with their Dells. What are you, a major shareholder in them or something?
No I just hate macintoshes with a passion. They crash all the time. ;)
And it's really irritating when I go into an apple store and everybody has a real nasaly voice and wears taped glasses.

And who ever thought of making the Apple logo a "rainbow striped fruit"? :P Like that:

I'm sorry if I offended you. :)

In general, I don't like Macs, I stopped liking them after I dealt with them for several
years and they always had problems. (back in the day of PowerPC etc.)
Always had terrible problems with Macs and printers. We ended up just throwing
everything out and getting PCs. :)

Once one of my professor's Macs just up and died while he was doing some
really important work - when he would turn it on, a little disk icon with a smiley
face would come on and blink - no error message or anything. He lost his files.

I have to admit that I haven't really tried OS X that much and it seems pretty
nice looking but I still don't like it as much as Windows. I do like Linux as much
as Windows though, just not everything runs on Linux that runs on Windows.

Once I went in an Apple store because I was considering buying a Powerbook G4,
and I was standing there observing it and this salesperson kept bugging me.
I said I was fine and that I was just looking, thanks anyway, but he persisted
on giving me a whole speech about iBooks. I figured I would ask him about
a rebate that was going on for the Powerbook G4 while I was talking to a
salesperson. I asked him how long the rebate would be going on and he
proceeded to tell me that "no, the store would absolutely not lower the price
for me". I decided to leave. I just got a weird feeling from the whole store,
like the people behind the racks of software were like looking at me weird
like I was of a different race or something. Strange. :| That's why I don't like
Macs.

But I don't want to waste everybody's time talking about my problems with
Mac, but I had to sort out the difference. I know many people who love their
Dells and have never had a problem. And to everyone who thinks Windows
is buggy - the only reason there's so many patches for it is because it's the
most widely used OS, therefore hackers & crackers are more persistent on
finding holes in the OS. Actually I haven't seen a Windows update patch
available as often as they used to be. :D

Fair enough that you don't like Macs - I don't agree but you're welcome to your opinion. The only reason that I wasn't sure if you were serious was that the two things you picked up on (stability and style) are the two things that people usually associate positively with Apple, most people think of OSX as much less crash-prone than Windows and "a real nasaly voice and taped glasses" are more of the typical geek sterotype whereas the Mac stereotype is more arty, sunglasses and all dressed in black.

It doesn't suprise me that you dislike Apple, many people do, it just suprised me that the things you mentioned seemed to be the opposite of common opinion.

That's because they changed their policy on releasing patches. They don't release them individually as they become available (you know, like at the time when you first need it) but in one big rollup patch every month I think.

The official excuse was that it was too much of a pain when there were 2 patches in a week...

"Microsoft will move to monthly patch releases, which will reduce the burden on IT administrators by adding a level of increased predictability and manageability...

Customers have complained that the current system of weekly patches is burdensome and needlessly complex ... Accordingly, the company will release fewer patches and try to consolidate multiple vulnerabilities affecting a single system into one patch. For vulnerabilities that pose an imminent risk to customers, however, Microsoft will release patches as soon as they are available...

The decision to release emergency patches will be handled on a case-by-case basis and correspond to the level of danger rather than the criticality of the patch..."
So it is mostly on a monthly basis, which actually helps with planning and scheduling to a degree; we now know that a hurricane will hit the second Tuesday of each month, we just don't know how bad it will be :)

** now getting back to the original post, phpBB 2.2 is looking awesome **

Personally I don't know why Microsoft did that as now patches will not be released
when they need to be.

And as for the original post, "phpBB is awesome", I agree totally. :D
