unicode support in phpbb2.2

Post by nguyentru »

in phpbb 2.06, I was able to use unicode characters in the signature line ( click here to see sample scroll to see unicode characters in the footer of my messages ), it seems phpbb 2.1 does not have it. Hopefully phpbb 2.2 will when its released.

I do believe this was mentioned in some other thread.
This is a broken board at the moment. Well, it's actually a rather nice board, but some things are broken, and subject to break still.

Sit tight for the final release, I'm sure it'll be working. If not, whine about it when the beta comes out :D.

That is not Unicode per se ... it's unicode represented as Numerical Character References. These take up around 2 1/2 times the space as the equivalent unicode character. At present everything is run through htmlspecialchars. Why? It ensures naughty people trying to be clever and misuse javascript/HTML cannot break the board. Will there be exceptions ... I wouldn't bet 100% on that. What can you do about it? Use an appropriate encoding in the first place as the RFD's and recommendations suggest.

You've posted that before, and you've had a response before too.
This software is developmental. Expect things to be broken. We do not want bug-reports.

With such mistakes in a forum it is impossible to work. From release to release there are no changes in the best party...
Say how to correct this mistake?

Elf, it's stated (just about everywhere), to NOT use this in a live environment (that is where people are likely to be using it on a regular basis), as it is unfinished, and prone to breaking :D
Wait till 2.2 is released ;)
