By posting useful/helpful/interesting messages that people rate you Good for.
However, I don't think karma is workin here right now. :)

I don't think it is working either because just for the hell of it I try to make people's karma go up but it doesn't work :(

It takes a while for votes to take effect on Karma.

Does a vote for each post count? Like if i were to for example rate every one of rob's posts, would that count as a vote for each post or as just one?

Well, Karma works not by one user going on a Karma rampage. Under the ACP, the admin has the options to set for karma to work; those include things such as:

Ratings count before karma:
Number of distinct ratings before users karma is calculated.

Historical ratings weighting:
Ratings made before the previous 30 days

Recent ratings weighting:
Ratings made in past 30 days

Membership length weighting:
Total length of membership

Total posts weighting:

The admin inputs values into those, and then when enough seperate users karma mod a user, their karma is adjusted to the ruleset above.
