Yep, I will do this in subSilver2 ... though of course it's entirely a template issue (unless I'm missing something or not understanding you).

I see you added this. Thanks. I mean in the default template released with
phpBB 2.2
I think this will be a lot better, seeing as the cells highlight, it makes sense that
you should be able to click it.

Along with this clickability, a hand icon when you hover over the cell would be nice, making sure users notice that it's a link. (You can do it with the "cursor" CSS attribute.)

That would fool users into thinking the entire cell is a link... which it's not, and would confuse them endlessly.

expanding the whole menu means loading a whole new page.
How about maybe a javascript expand and colapse? Just to save time and bandwidth.
