Sadly i think they will just update prosilver_se to 3.1. If there were any plans for changing it, we would have known already.

The main page content is just another page created in the community forum, which uses prosilver_se.
There is nothing they could change about its design, other than arranging the content/text someplace else on the page.

phpbb should create a modern style with major changes as prosilver is a design thats over six years old. All that phpbb does is maintain the prosilver code and keeping the same structure. Like replacing round image corners with css border radius and using the HTML5 doctype.

3.1 Can keep prosilver as its still a 3.x.x release. But in phpbb 4.0, i sincerely hope that the Styles Team will design a great new modern HTML5 Template (That removes or makes the repeating topic-title less prominent as i sincerely hate it) :D

phpBB.com the website is not just a custom page of phpbb so its has nothing to do with the style of the community other than the two are integrated together stylistically just like area51 is.

The two are completely unrelated to each other.

Yes prosilver_se is being update to be compatible with 3.1 -> https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2258516 obviously it would need to be.

reference nicofumas links for the discussion on this. My goal is far before 4.0 hopefully, but as I have outlined here:

https://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopi ... 81&t=45613

My idea is for it to be created and initially released as its own style on phpbb.com to be adopted in the next release at the time. I will put together a detailed proposal once I have finished laying all the ground work and plans for it. Until then respond and provide as much feedback as you can to all the threads outlined in this post:

phpBB.com doesn't use prosilver_se, prosilver_se is based on phpBB.com instead.

Do not understand what you are asking here.

The community forum on phpBB.com will always match the design of phpBB.com as with any site.

Overall phpBB.com design is not changing if that's what you are asking.

Actually most our website is completely separate and running on symfony, our community forums run on phpBB. You can even view [or contribute via pull requests] our website source code at https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb-website and we are gradually moving more of our website over to the symfony site; pages on our separate symfony website say 'Powered using Symfony' in the footer. This is quite a recent change but there will be a blog post at some point in the future highlighting this.

Despite this, the website header & footer and general feel always has (except early on) and will [for the foreseeable future] remain reflective of the primary style used on the forums and we have no intention of changing this as it keeps a consistent feel across the main website, the only places the style deviates is on some of our micro-sites such as http://area51.phpbb.com, http://wiki.phpbb.com and http://status.phpbb.com.

We are currently working in preparation to update http://www.phpbb.com to 3.1 and when we do update the website to 3.1 we will of course still be following phpBB 3.1's style, the select few differences being things already in place such as the colour scheme, small enhancements/features (Adds next to rules, [EVENT] image etc.) and we will keep our fixed width (Which differs from phpBB 3.1's fixed width). This means that at this point our website will become responsive, have the expandable quick link menu, AJAX and benefit from the other style enhancements that phpBB 3.1 has to offer. The 'Prosilver Special Edition' style will also be updated (as previously mentioned) but this is independent of updating phpbb.com as prosilver_se is simply prosilver with an adapted colour scheme that is based off the one used on http://www.phpbb.com. Beyond updating to 3.1 there are no other major changes currently planned in the immediate future to the http://www.phpbb.com overall style.

They share assets but we can make customisations to one part without also changing the other which we do but for technical reasons rather than because we want to make them look aesthetically different.

If you do have any suggestions for more specific improvements to phpbb.com we would much appreciate hearing about them. You can make suggestions in the Website Feedback topic and we will address them there. In the future can you please post about phpBB Website issues/suggestions/questions on phpbb.com itself in the phpBB discussion forum, the website feedback topic or, in the case of bugs, in our issue tracker, as Area51 is for core phpBB development.
