Version Number
I installed the 3.1a2 on a test server using the upgrade, and the version number is showing 3.0.12. Is that correct?

The version checker looks at the same info (the same URL, that is) in the released versions as it does in the development version. (See
obtain_latest_version_info() in includes/functions_admin.php for specifics)
