Ok, I been looking at this bit of code and I'm not sure if one want to put it into play into the core.

The end result look like this:

its better use Ckeditor on Tinymce in phpbb core.

Is this just a propoosal to restyle the BBCode editor or something more involved?

I like it tbh - it's a "small" change but helps "modernise" up the editor without awaiting a wysiwyg solution. And looks, however much we hate it can dictate opinion. Perhaps it could be tied in with a general overhaul of the editor javascript.

It not a WYSIWYG editor, all it does just just make the buttons on the posting page look a little better, thats all. Or am I not understanding you correctly?

The buttons on the posting page would be replaced by those in the WYSIWYG editor is what I mean.
