There are some docs about autocomplete problem workaround at
Mozilla wiki. For example by use of JS to set attribute.

Using JS to set the attribute might fool standard validators but it does not make the attribute any more valid. So that really doesn't make sense.

I would go with just adding the attribute directly instead of through JavaScript. I only mentioned it so that SOMEONE was aware. I agree that usability is more important than staying 100% XHTML valid (though some users might not agree...).
