Hi,
Had probs with forum, so deleted it completely via ftp. Installed new version 3.04 (full).
When going thro' the install procedure, a window displays for the "prefix for tables in database:", the window shows "phpbb_", when I go to next step, I am informed that "Tables with specified prefix already exist...."
How can I delete the existing tables and start anew?
TIA.
Mark

Re: A re-installation of phpbb problem
Either choose another prefix such as phpbb3_ or go into the database and delete it. Not all hosts do this the same way, but look in your site's controls for MySQL databases or phpmyadmin.
Re: A re-installation of phpbb problem
Hi,
Thanks....got it installed now
A few more q's:
1. How to I change the text in the banner?
2. I wish to restrict all forums to just 2-3 people having access to enter team news, etc, but viewable to everyone...
....I have managed to enter 1 user, but cannot get the permissions to the forums correct or lock the forums to everyone else to join/make comments. read the docs, but sorry, getting too old to understand this now
can anyone let me know an easy way to do this please?
Sorry to be a pain to everyone...but once this is set up again, I should never need to touch it for a while
TIA
Mark

Make a new usergroup for the people you want to be able to post.mirrixx wrote:2. I wish to restrict all forums to just 2-3 people having access to enter team news, etc, but viewable to everyone...

Set their groups forum permissions to standard access.
Then set the groups forum permissions for the registered users to be able to read but not post or reply (in the advanced options).

Re: A re-installation of phpbb problem
Do it all by groups forum permissions.
If the board is not viewable as a guest
groups forum permissions
guests
the forums
read only (or the level you want)
If you want users to see and post things
groups forum permissions
registered users
the forums
standard access
If you don't want registered users to post
groups forum permissions
registered users
the forums
advanced
