Help to update from 3.0.1 to 3.0.4

Post by ericb007 »

OK, I'm late. I know. Sorry to hear about the main list being hacked.

I found the temporary update/upgrade pages. However, I don't see anything for my situation. I need to upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.0.4 in the most simple process possible. I'm a photo retoucher, not a programmer. So any step-by-step help would be appreciated!

If you have no modifications, the simplest method to update is

Get a download of the full version of phpBB3.0.4
Upload everything except config.php and the images and files folders.
Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
Let it run
Delete the install folder
You are now up to date.

Hi Kevin,

I'm in the same situation as ericb007 - but I have loads of MODS.

Would I have to reinstall them? This could take me a while.

The updater will give you an option to merge the changes after backing up the changed files. Just make sure you choose that option and the mods should still work after the update, as long as they haven't changed too much of the core code.

You will need to go here
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=194469
and get the _to_ versions of the automatic updates for each version you want to get to and go step wise from 3.0.1>2>4 (you can jump from 2>4 without going through v3).

Upload the install folder
go to your admin panel>system tab and follow directions.

With a lot of mods what you need is the changed files only package, however I do not know if that is available anywhere except phpbb.com which is down. :| You saying you need 3.0.1 to 3.0.4? I will see if I have a copy floating around and PM you if I do.

All the downloads are actually hosted on SourceForge.net. Kevin provided the link to the phpBB3 project, so all the downloads are there.

Funny, I don't see changed files only package phpBB-3.0.1_to_3.0.4 anywhere. Can you give me a link?

That's exactly what you don't want.

The changed files versions will overwrite modded files with unmodded ones and make a real mess with a mixture of files.

You need the auto update packages which are the 'to' versions of the downloads. This will attempt to merge the user modded files with the newly updated versions.

Not when you use those changed files to do the same thing automatic update does, except manually and better. I never said to overwrite anything, I said that would be the best package to have to save multiple iterations of the same file edit by having to step through each version.
