Third Party CAPTCHA

Post by yexusbeliever »

Acyd Burn wrote: At the moment the code base is nearly RC1-ready, but there is still one component we want to finalize (apart from the remaining critical bugs) being the captcha which has shown to be not as effective as we thought (we used third party code and hoped it being more matured than ours). Once the remaining critical bugs are fixed and the captcha problem being resolved we will release the first release candidate.

Woohoot! Yeah!

I like to see a hard-hitting captcha against spams. Since it is going to be third party code, does this mean that it is based on one of our phpBB2 mods?
hmm....

The current captcha is 3rd-party code ;)

Captcha is the verification system that you see when you register or post as a guest. It's an image of some numbers and letters that you have to type in, to try to make sure that it's a person and not a bot that is registering.

I posted a comment about challenge and response questions in viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26342&start=1030. Perhaps I posted it in the wrong place.

OCR is getting very good these days. Papers that we had to have manually entered we are now able to have scanned. It's even possible to run hand written notes through OCR these days. However a challenge and response question that is adaptable to each forum would give as many possible questions and responses as there are forums.

I realise that the forum is feature frozen so at this point maybe it's just a thought :)

I liked the captcha like it was in the CVS a few months ago. (where there were different type of CAPTCHAs). The new one does not look so much harder than the CAPTCHA a few days ago.
