Gold, of course. I don't want to use live any RC because they are just release candidates! They may still have bugs, and the most trusted version will be the final (Gold) one.

I have a small mates forum that will go RC1 because they won't mind if it bugs here and there. My other forums are more public so they will update with the gold version.

Any piece of non-trivial code will potentially have bugs. That is why the 2.0.x line is now at version 2.0.21, and not still 2.0.0 after some 4 and a bit years having been released.
Furthermore, release candidates are called that for the very reason because they are "candidates for a gold release", or in other words, "it's as good as gold, and should be treated as such".
For phpBB2, the last RC was RC4, and within a month later came 2.0.0 with some additional bug fixes. Some other developers (eg: Mozilla.org) will actually release the last RC as gold, changing nothing but the version number (and branding in their casse). Had phpBB done this, then there would have been an RC5, with 2.0.0 being identical with only the version number being different.
Had RC1 been singed off as gold (it didn't), then the current release minor version number for phpBB2 would be a 3 higher.

as soon as there is an upgrade script,, and maybe the new "theme",,, this theme really looks like the old one (phpbb2)
