I have seen no commits to the CVS since phpBB3 Beta2 went live, are we on the last beta version?

Hmmm... If that theory holds, that would mean that beta 2 is so stable that they are planning to release it as RC 1 unchanged. Somehow, I doubt that.
That's not to say beta 2 couldn't be the last beta, I just don't think no comits to the CVS is a very good indication.

Highly undoubtfull. I think they have a small break to get their act together and then push once more forward.

I don't know.. the bugtracker is a good indication, a lot of changes -> beta3.. for a long time no bugs reported -> rc1....

There have been a few small commits since beta2 came out... 12 files have changed in total, but the schema hasn't SO FAR

I think they are just taking a break from working on it. There are usually a lot of updates on the weekends.. there are something like 40 bugs out right now.

I can't believe how many bugs there are, writing software must be a horrible seemingly endless (and thankless) task!
