AFAIK that was always the case, to a certain extent.

i disagree, I think its good for when you have a group of users who are already on an email list, then join a forum and you want to keep some discussion separate, instead of having to go through and add them all you can just dole out a password.. Probably not the best solution for long term usage, but will work great for situations like that..

As in a whole other forum?? What if they also wanted to join in discussions in the other forums within that forum system..

Trust me, its a feature people will use more than you think, and even if you dont think its useful its good that its there..
