cvs access

Post by DarkFate »

i guess this could be considered support, but its not for phpbb. Im using TortoiseCVS and it keeps saying when i try to checkout modules(getting the list of them) it keeps saying:
stupid login wrote: Empty password used - try 'cvs login' with a real password
cvs.exe [checkout aborted]: authorization failed: server cvs.sourceforge.net rejected access to /cvsroot/phpbb -z5 co phpBB2 for user anonymous

Error, CVS operation failed
anyone else get this error?

You have to use the pserver: mode instead of the ext: mode.

Look for it in your CVS client.

You have to create a new folder and right click on it and hit cvs checkout. then enter this for cvsroot:
:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/phpbb

Then for the module name type:
phpBB2

It will say there is an empty password, but it will still start downloading the files.

Old post, I know, but I'm having terrible difficulties.

How can I change it to pserver mode?

I'm using wincvs, by the way.

No support means no support, and that includes retrieval of the source.

If that is true (which I will not doubt it is), please explain how these people could solve a similar problem:

I am merely experiencing a difficulty retrieving the files. A simple problem that can be answered with little effort and no conflict.

If you'd like to get technical, I am not asking how to retieve the files but change the mode to pserver. If someone could please answer how to change the mode, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, it could be done with little effort or conflict. However:
1) I don't use WinCVS, so I don't know the answer. So instead, I'll be providing you the answer that you SHOULD be getting, which is:
2) No support means no support, and that includes retrieval of the source, just like I already said. Would you rather have a mod be hammering this down instead?
3) If you had searched (though I admit, sometimes it's broken, three cheers for software in development) you would have known this already.

I'm really trying to not be confrontational, but these are the rules they already have in place.
And being a loyal fanboy (yes, I do admit it!) I'll continue to repeat what so many others have said, and what so many more others have been told.

No support is just that, no support. For anything. Including retrieval of source code.
