But, I'd expect paul to have seen the current versions of the new templates, and have a fairly good idea as to how it will look.

He's seen it, and indeed posted screenshots, as I said earlier.

Just be patient...the final release will be here in due time so you'll just have to wait till then.
And it would also ruin the "surprise" if everyone knew how the template looked like(as the other reasons that are very clearly stated within the announcements found on phpBB.com).

It may be a space related theme, considering its called Olympus (the mountain on mars for those of you who don't know). It may be a black background, not the traditional white.

I doubt it, olympus is just a codename
