Re: Subscription System
phpbb is already the most commonly used bbs on the internet. I really doubt they care if one person switches to invision or eblah. It is like stomping out of a fast food resturaunt saying you are never going to eat there again. The only board that competes is invision and you have to pay for it.

Re: Subscription System
Only phpBB will never be comparable to any of the fast food restaurants. I don't know much of restaurants in US, but phpBB would then for sure be a very luxory and nice restaurant, while vB and Invision would be McDonalds and Burger King.eyes sama wrote: It is like stomping out of a fast food resturaunt saying you are never going to eat there again.
The thing that's destorying this comparision is that no restaurants are free. Damn. Ah well. You see my point.
"phpBB3 is never late. Nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to."
Re: Subscription System
and you misunderstood my reason for the post. I was merely suggesting how a system would work. I never hinted anything about leaving phpbb and using other boards.
Right, im hungry from all this talk, where is this free phpbb restaurant to get some snacks?

Market, competition? phpBB is free... These terms should not apply.

Re: Subscription System
invision competing? heck they have the same BBCode and it's called BBCode there as well. in other words...
anyways, phpBB is not only known for their "non-profit"; but also because of phpBB is easy to use. a lot of newcomers ( i remember when i still was it ) mostly know nothing about managing a board, but since phpBB was so easy i learned it real fast.
as for the subscription system, why not simply add a paypal? also phpBB doesnt need it since its more a thing needed at the site, not at the forum

Re: Subscription System
I happen to disagree here. Subscribing to the site usually means contributing some or taking something. IOW If there is a forum you will be contributing ideas and info. Since the Forum is a major part of the site I am seeing nowadays a tendancy for most websites to focus what is called the "main" website around the actuall forum.Uchiha Nick wrote: as for the subscription system, why not simply add a paypal? also phpBB doesnt need it since its more a thing needed at the site, not at the forum

Re: Subscription System
yeah, however a paypal can still be integrated in a forum should it really be needed.
but im sticking to it; a forum doesnt need it, thats my opinion oO

Re: Subscription System
well the first step in this direction is allready taken, thanks to the apache auth system in the new board.
Most subscription sites work with ccbill (after the problems with Ibill)
and those sites use htaccess.
the subscription system doesnt even need to be integrated with phpbb. It will be (I think) very easy just to use those Phpbb htaccess and htpassword files with CCBill. No need for Paypal.

Re: Subscription System
Depends on the forum, but those that really do need it can easily add one. If the individual running the site doesn't know how it's easy to find someone who does.Uchiha Nick wrote: yeah, however a paypal can still be integrated in a forum should it really be needed.

Is CCBill free to use? PayPal alone is not good enough, i wanna offer the users alternatives to paying for their subscription. Many people franky distrust PayPal.
