Weekly Development IRC Meeting Proposal

Postby naderman » Wed Jul 18, 2012 3:29 pm

Hey all,

The wish to have regular meetings has been brought up by a few people in private conversations with me. I think they can work as long as we follow a simple set of rules. The meetings will take place in the #phpbb-dev channel on FreeNode IRC.

All topics of discussion need to be posted ahead of time. We won't have a general status meeting. If you want to discuss something, put it on the agenda. Each item will be discussed at most 10 minutes, with the goal of deciding how to continue work on the subject. If long discussion is necessary it can be had in a smaller group on IRC at a later time or in the respective area51 discussion topic. The meeting will be at most 1 hour long. So only up to 6 agenda points per week are allowed.

To decide on a regular time most of us can make it every week I've created a doodle. It only contains times that I can make it, to make sure I'm always present during these meetings. Please select the days of the week and time you can typically attend an IRC meeting: http://www.doodle.com/tcppphqbrd35ufhf

The first meeting will take place next week. I will create a topic for the agenda once we've picked a date.

Just for the record I think it shows the times in UTC by default. There's a drop down at the top which you can use to change it to your local timezone to make it easier.

This involves only the branch of phpbb 3.1 or covers the entire phpBB project?.

Sounds perfect, I expect us to get something good from this. :)

I have provided my availabilities. Mostly late afternoon (US EDT), but a couple of days I am more available than others. And some of the times I didn't mark I may be around but am not entirely sure, so I didn't mark them.

I think this is a good idea, as I think it will increase motivation to get things done sooner when we are actively discussing them.

Alright, so I'll pick the Friday this week, that is July 27th at 3pm. Since none of this is particularly ideal, I'll keep the poll open so more people can vote, and availability can be changed. Maybe we should have a separate vote on the time each week? Although it'd certainly be easier to just have a fixed appointment one can plan with.

+1 to changing each week. Or have say two times and alternate. That means people that say, do something on a Friday at 3PM don't miss every single meeting.

I'm okay with a new vote each week, or we could switch it up and alternate between two or three times so that people that can't make it on Fridays can make it to another.

Someone will need to copy/paste the log of each meeting into this or another topic when we're done so that those that couldn't make it can view what was discussed. There should also be a brief summary so that people dont' have to read through the entire log but can still determine the key points and decisions.
