Include Editpost history.

Post by Dragosvr92 » Mon Nov 26, 2012 6:52 pm

I see that facebook recently (maybe even a month ago) included a text link, "Edited", which shows a pop up page where it shows the messages that were edited.
Why not include such a feature in phpbb and mention/mark the posts as edited. I think a small software that generates the differences between the messages would be nice. Like the differences options from the wikipedia software or phpbb s installer/updater things.

Thoughts....?

Post Revisions
Notification box

What you're suggesting should be coverable through a combination of these two RFCs. However I'd say it would be handy for moderator tasks but not for all users.

I think the users should see the edited differences. They may know the original post and wantto see what it was modified into.
This will also stop people from editing their posts, leaving it empty.

You would run out of bandwidth on shared hosting rather quickly. Also what if it's a spammer that suddenly decided to edit his many "normal" sounding posts and add spam or worse yet porn to them? What are they going to do then? They can't do anything other than report them after having viewed them so now the moderator has double the work. Of course this would go off of permissions anyways so you can do whatever you want...heck even give guests access to it.

I am on shared hosting and i have unlimited bandwidth. It can come as disabled by default and users with enough resources can decide to enable it.
Uh.. ? Spamm posts are deleted and when you see they are spammers you band/delete their accounts so thy cant edit the posts even if you let them there.

Guests wouldn't have a reason to access it. They wouldn't be that interested what changes were made to the topic.
I think it may be nice to allow an option that lets the users to uncheck a box that stops the forum for saving the changes made to the post.

If an admin has a post that gets updated constantly, he wont want to use database space to save the old data.

As stated, I believe this is covered under the post revisions concept.
Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.
