Improvement of the Ban System

Post by Dragosvr92 »

Well i cannot understand why is the Ban system working this way.....

So there are the fallowing rows........
ban_id, ban_userid, ban_ip, ban_email, ban_start, ban_end, ban_exclude, ban_reason, ban_give_reason
If you want to ban a user you have to ban all his 3 things, username, ip, email. For that it ads a new row.....
For example when i want to ban a user it inserts three lines in the balist table.
One for just the user id. One for the ip he registered with. And one for his email. WHY!?
Why dosnt it just give you an option to click BAN USER, And it will ban His Username, his IP Address, his email.
After i have banned the user i changed that row with

Code: Select all

UPDATE phpbb_banlist SET ban_ip = '12.123.12.123', ban_email = 'example@hotmail.com'  WHERE ban_id =2;
So that i have all his ban data into a single row, and not 3 !

I concur...from an interface perspective, instead of the dropdown, there should be checkboxes...

Delete all posts
Ban by username
Ban by email
Ban by IP
Deactivate account
Delete account

So...basically, as the admin, I should be able to check the boxes, and lo and behold...in one click, I have deleted posts, banned the email, and deleted the account (etc)

Your idea seems interesting !

Well.... Im more into adding a one click ban. When you click Ban, it bans the username, the email, and the ip..... Banning the entire Ips hes posted from would be cool.

That way when you unban the user x, you only ban him once. You wont have to unban his user.... his mail..... his ip and blablablaah...

Theoretically, yes! But you should be more careful while banning IPs and ranges of IPs and should, in fact, check the IP whois before banning them...the reason is IPs can be and are easily spoofed by spammers, and you don't want to end up banning an entirely legitimate range of IPs...

I said to ban the IP's from the Poster. Not to use a Range ban on the IP.

Same rationale, even if you are banning a single IP

Hello,
IMO blocking with automatically mantained remote databases called blacklists is much more effective and has much less false positives.
