Meta description is not useless, but is becoming less relevant. Google, Bing and Yahoo! don't use meta keywords at all (e.g. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot. ... a-tag.html , http://searchengineland.com/yahoo-searc ... -tag-27303 ). Sitemaps are important for discovery, although XML sitemaps are better than HTML sitemaps (HTML sitemaps are more for users than for SEs)....it is a good idea to use services like Google Webmaster tools and Bing webmaster center and submit your XML sitemaps there.

Nice topic! I assume some of here are SEO's expert. In the other hand, I learned from all of you. All of your ideas are great and well presented. Maybe I could apply all of your thoughts.
