Hello,
This system of installation is so slow and very tedious.
phpBB is looking to advance into the next decade, not keep the same features that are making it lag behind the other main forums.
myBB, your main free competitor, even has a very EASY AND FAST plugin system which requires none to a little bit of editing files. Unlike, phpBB which still is lagging behind and takes many many editsand takes a long time to search and find the code.
This is why phpBB is losing beginners because they are giving up on the forum because to install a simple "who was online today plugin" it takes about 10-15 minutes for a beginner, unlike myBB, vBulletin which take approximately 2 seconds[Not even kidding].
This is why users are switching out of phpBB into myBB and vBulletin.
Let's push phpBB into the next decade.
Revolutionize the plugin installation system.

Something is being worked on for 3.1 to improve MOD installation, I believe.

AutoMod is pretty buggy and it has a high failure rate for users.callumacrae wrote:Just use AutoMODBullsNet wrote:Hello,

Re: Revolutionize the plugin installation system.
This issue is being addressed by the dev team. The process is starting with 3.1. See the feature list below:BullsNet wrote:AutoMod is pretty buggy and it has a high failure rate for users.callumacrae wrote:Just use AutoMODBullsNet wrote:Hello,

Do what myBB/vB/IPB plugin installation system does and phpBB can dominate them all.

Re: Revolutionize the plugin installation system.
Again all you say is "ew AutoMOD" and nothing else. That's pretty useless. What is wrong with AutoMOD that cannot be fixed before 3.1 or 3.2? It won't be used that much anyways due to the hooks.
And just so everyone's clear and no FUD continues spreading, those other systems you keep mentioning have some method of installation, auto-updating, etc. so they DO have their own version of AutoMOD anyways.
