I think you misunderstood the concept of plugins we decided on here. We basically want to implement all basic functionality as plugins, some of which are going to be enabled by default.

Is your idea to have "plug-and-play" plugins, and have non-critical "plugins" be able to be enabled/disabled/created at will?

My apologies, this is interesting indeed

With this said, we will have to have a very easy to use installation and update method for plugins/addmons and themes. The mod and style database will have to be revamped for ease of use, so users can find what they are looking for from the acp and install automatically. Inclusion of a voting system within the acp so users can vote on the compatibility of these plugins. And .. something that is very important, there will have to be a clear indication of what plugins and themes are supported and maintained by phpbb. Theres nothing worse than needing to use a mod thats been abandoned.

I do like this goal though, this leaves it up to the admin to chose to have a basic install or complex

I have a question naderman, has there been any discussion of what will be included in core as basic functionality or included as a plugin enabled by default? If not, we should start this thread.
