Referrer usage when logging in.

General discussion of development ideas and the approaches taken in the 3.x branch of phpBB. The next feature release of phpBB 3 will be 3.1/Ascreaus followed by 3.2/Arsia.

Referrer usage when logging in.

Postby Dragosvr92 » Tue May 15, 2012 8:02 pm

If you view a page on a phpbb forum, lets say a topic, and you are logged out. If you wish to log-in and post something to that topic, it logs you in, and redirects you to the forum index page, and you have to look up for the page you were on, or use the browser to go back.

It would be pretty, if you could make use of the referrer option, and redirect the user to the page he last accessed before the index page, other than the index.
I have seen that a few sites/forums have this feature. What do you think..? :?:

If you simply hit "reply" rather than logging in, it behaves as you describe.

Not everyone is aware of that. if you are on a different page, other that the topic one, it would be nice if it could redirect to the previous page you were.

Sounds like a good idea but I don't see why we would have to wait for 4.0 for something like that though.

Ops, i meant to post in the 3.2 forum.
Could it be considered to be added in 3.1, or if its not possible, 3.2 ?

This topic's title takes the prize for most errors per word (3 in 4).

Moved to 3.2.

Wow, I actually had to look that up. I thought it only had the one r in the middle, but apparently that is just a common misspelling that has caught on.

Anyway, I am all for a smarter return system, aka one that returns you to the page you were on during login. But I haven't looked really at the current system or what would be involved in making it better.

There is a login link on every page, yes? Just customize the link as part of the header load so that it's "context aware" and returns you back to the same page you were on when you logged in. I would think it would be quite an easy fix to make.
