Please drop this argument. It has always been phpBB's vision to only include features that will benefit the community as a whole; not because (vB/myBB/IPB/"joe blows" BB) has them. Also keep in mind that those other BBS include everything and the kitchen sink, which not only makes them nothing more than bloatware sitting on a server, but also (in my opinion) very cumbersome to manage (yes, I've tried them all ;) ).

I agree, keep this as a MOD/extension, not a core feature.

Exist an addon for MyBB, for phpBB think it should be a MOD and not add it to the core.
phpBB®: Become a Junior Styles Validator

Any bulletin board software that is not paid?

Anyway phpBB will not implement such feature whose only purpose is to add social network to the forum and that's not the purpose of phpBB. The dev team may change its mind in some years, but for phpBB 3.* there will be no such feature no matter what you (phpBB users) may say (from what I recall from discussions)

SMF has a couple, though they're mods

That's what is intended for phpBB too.
