Best way to back up your forum

Hi all,

Firstly I hope things are going ok with the repair of the main forum, it's a much needed place and should donations be needed please let us know as I am sure many of us will gladly assist with any financial need. I know I will gladly.

Ok , as I have been saying for a few months ....I'm new to all this ...through the help of all the people from PHPbb I have managed to muddle through and actually enjoy the whole php forum bit now even if things have been a little nerve racking at times.

My query this time is backing up your forum....I know I need to do this and seeing as I have already lost one forum way back I really want to do this so What is the best way to back up your forum?

I have checked the Backup section and there are a few choices/options.

What should I really be doing? Backing up everything? Just data?

Where should I back it up to?

Threat me as numbskull please and explain fully just to make sure and I am sure there will be others who will find this ection a great help.

Initially, you should back up everything.
Copying to your own PC is safest. If this times out, then backing up to your web server, then using FTP to copy the file to your PC is the next best option.

(This is a backup copy while the main phpbb.com site is down.)

Also which would be the action?
Store and download , Store file locally , Download

also it says something about storing in my store folder? Whats this and how does it work?

Try just "text" initially. "gzip" can make the file smaller, but sometimes causes timeouts on the server.

Also which would be the action?

"Download" means download to your PC
"Store file locally" means to save it on your web server, so you can access it later via FTP. I guess it goes into a folder called store, I haven't actually tried that option myself yet.

Well another good way to Backup is Backup your Boards Database daily.
You could also use this MOD by EXreaction it backups database on daily bases.

No Disabling Board is not required when Backing Up.
