phpBB3/Olympus MODS

Post by itsonlybarney »

Has anyone started creating any MODS for use on future phpBB3/Olympus??

Will there be a huge number of MODS created for phpBB3/Olympus like there were with phpBB2??

If people start creating MODs now, they'd be incredibly dumb IMO... Olympus is still alpha / pre-beta code. Things will still change. I would suspect people won't start creating MODs until at the very least RC1.. if not later RCs..

I may be wrong, but I can't see as many MOD's being made for v3 as v2, as there are so many more features in Olympus :)

MODs aren't created by the phpBB group, so it will be up to contributing individuals. We like to hope they will though ;)

A number of MOD writers have expressed their interest in releasing MODs for phpBB3.

There will be still alot of scope for modding 3.0, infact these popular ones can be done:

Cash/Points

April Fools
Topic Calendar

RSS Syndicator
No Flood Limit For Admin & Mods
Ranks summarize
Automatic language detection
Allow multiple spaces
SpellingCow Spell Checker
Allow multiple domain names
Colour on poll results
ezDownloads
Topic Description

Blog MOD
etc....

Plenty of scope :) (and that is barely the tip of the iceberg)

I started modding...
But my mod doesn't change anything in the phpBB files, exept adding a link to the template.

In terms of themes, some BB2 ones have such a similarity to Olympus subSilver they
can be ported easy. One example is Macinscott2 (a Mac OS X theme for BB2).
Like Macs or just want to see Olympus Live? ;)

But you must admit that the majority of code is working and that the current edits are for small errors I believe.

Would it be possible to start putting some code together to create some MODS and change it if required when the main source code changes??
