As long as the key is presented in the graphic that would be pretty cool. such as:

that kind of approach is too easy to win against, there is no variation. the noise does not make it any harder to detect the edges...

They keys shouldn't be to easy to read either, and they should differ every time offcourse :)

It's ment as an addition, not a replacement of the examples above.. Combined it should be pretty hard to crack :)

guys, I wasn't try to make it uber secure. I was just demonstrating that the key should be in the graphics file. Next time, i'll try harder with making the graphic ultra secure.

Things like "make it more readable" are not responses that will help. Things like "The two at the front looks slightly too curvy" is way more helpful.

Also, the information for generating these images are right inside of one file. If you feel that you can come up with a better bitmap/vector, post it! If you find a better font, tell us!

All work in CVS is a work in progress. The fight against spam is never really over. Also, the work that is in the current CVS does not represent total progress. There are more things up ours sleeves :D

Of the three methods, two of them were displayed. An example of the third is

The answer is PGRU3BWS
In this image, I think the W is far too light. I missed that the first time I tried the visual confirmation, and it was harder to see then. It needs to be darkened a bit so it's obviously a letter (but not too much or the bot gets the idea).

Yep, the W definatly needs to be darkened...just started playing with it a little bit...I will give you some more feedback if I find anything that needs a little fixing. :)

EDIT: And the wavy ones definatly need work...the letters seem to get squished once in a while, and its really hard to read. :(
(kind hard to explain...sorry)

EDIT: And here:

The L is at too big of an angle...it almost looks like a v. ;)

EDIT:
(lol, a lot of edits :p)

What is that? 3M 7? BX Is that a 7 in the middle?

I think one of the most interresting topic about this is (to avoid repeating):
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23134&st=0&sk=t&sd= ... a&start=10
The problem is that bots evolve. Even the visual or vocal confirmation can by bypassed by computer algorithms - OCR, AI... Look for example here: http://sam.zoy.org/pwntcha/ Efficiency against current phpBB - 97% Razz

I think the only we can do is changing the methods time after time...

More on this topic at W3C: http://www.w3.org/TR/turingtest/
Another page about CAPTCHA and bots: http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~mori/research/gimpy/

General info about CAPTCHA: http://www.brains-n-brawn.com/default.a ... =aicaptcha

Just an idea: About about using projective spaces / 3-D. No, I'm not talking about making an OpenGL window in phpBB of course. Just an idea of using 3-D deformations/rotations and other things. It's not that hard to project 3-D to 2-D. (an example of very simple 3D projection http://www.beroux.com/?id=40)

It's hard to tell the first one has raised letters unless you've been looking at it for a few minutes for me.

Maybe a transformation like this will be good.
