WYSIWYG message board?

Post by Eric Cartman »

Is phpBB ever going to use WYSIWYG?
I hope so cause WYSIWYG makes a forum so much better.

I think the newer vBulletin versions support WYSIWYG posting messages.

For example, you highlight text, and click on the "Bold" button, it will make it bold in the input box where you're typing everything, instead of surrounding it with

Code: Select all

At least thats what I make of it. :)
I can't see the meaning of this life I'm leading,

Did you ever use Front Page from Microsoft? WYSIWYG is that.
WYSIWYG means what you see is what you get, because as you make the post, you select and see colors, text sizes, placement and images just as they will appear in the browser.
You can also copy content of other pages into your post wich is pretty cool.
Instead of using image tags in the post you can just copy and paste images from other pages into the post.

I know what WYSIWYG is. Two problems: Think of the people with downlevel browsers and let's just say I wouldn't want to be the one to code that feature.

WYSIWYG means what you see is what you get, because as you make the post, you select and see colors, text sizes, placement and images just as they will appear in the browser.

That's what 'Preview' is for.

I like the feature also, but....

All the cross browser solutions I"ve seen tend to be fairly large in size leading to a lot of bloat that we may not want in phpBB.
Need good web hosting? I recommend Hostrocket.

I believe a mod is in development for this over at phpBB 2.0.x - it's based on Hotmail's online Rich Text e-mail editior.

/me agrees with the it being Bloat. But to be honest, I couldn't be bothered if the text is formatted in the window as I'm typing it. I like it as it is :)
