What's the point of the diff engine?

Post by Phantom784 »

I noticed that there is code in phpBB3 used for calculating diffs. I was thinking that it could be useful for a mod that tracks edits in posts, but I was wondering what the point of having it in the first place is, and what it does on a standard phpBB3 installation?
