Categories in different language.

Post by user99 »

Has someone tried, if it is possible to have categories in different language, with single phpBB3 install. (Ie. language pack applied separately on each category)

For e.g., I would like to have, "Forums for Swedish speaking", "Forums for Finnish speaking", etc.

The language system is based on users preferences - not on board admins.

It would not change the language of a post - ie it will not translate a post.

I actually have a multi language forum. (phpBB2)

Seperate rooms for each language - with seperate mod teams for each language.

But you have to have 1 default language for registrations which is a problem sometimes. Do not know why but it is always the French that seem to find English the hardest to understand. Lucky I have a good set of French mods to run it (lots of registartion problems with them).

It works very well.

So you will need to set your rooms up, choose your default language - and hope they all post in the right rooms in the right language.

Or make separate groups (for each language) and make users join them.
Then let each group's memebers post only in the relevant section.

Maybe I didn't make myself very clear.

If for e.g., users clicks on "Swedish speaking people forum", only the phpBB interface languages changes to Swedish (no translation of actual topic texts, they remain, as it was entered )

In summary, to have different forums, with "phpbb interface language" defined-in-advance for each forum? The "Board Index" can be in English :)

Does it seem possible with single phpBB installation & by using same or different styles for each forums?

No. Langpacks are board-wide, user-dependent.
