As the permissions can be a little complicated I like the option they've added to 'Copy permissions from'. That way you can set up one forum, make sure it has all the right basic settings for regular users to view and post etc and then just copy it to the others. Most of the forums on general boards tends to have the same settings.

Then for specific sections that only allow polls or mod access etc you can do those few individually.
