Is phpbb3 expected to be faster, slower, or about the same a

Post by greggish »

I'll admit that I didn't to a thorough search to see if this has already been answered. Just hoping for some quick input from those who may know, how phpbb3 will compare to phpbb2 on speed and server resources. Thanks.

Edit: Hey it looks like I found my first bug. It allowed me to type in for the title of this thread "Is phpbb3 expected to be faster, slower, or about the same as 2", but when I submitted it it cut off the last few characters.

from my experience with phpBB 2 and phpBB 3 (well the beta's lol), 3.0 seems to be 45-70% faster at times and other about 27% (or around that area) faster. everything loads quicker than i would have thought it to be, thats a good thing. keep p the good work

...but uses more queries, of course.
No idea of how much more.

yeah, that's what i don't get, those must be some really optimized queries to let 3.0 to be this fast, with the very extensive number of queries Olympus uses. as it is much much much more (im thinking around 500+ or so.... total)

The caching is my first guess... all around just seems better optimized. :)

oh yeah, i forgot about the caching, but yeah all the code is optimized for speed and security (although there may be bugs here and there)

Even though there are/may be bugs, I feel it is currently more stable than phpBB2, except for the fact that the database could change, or they could still do quite a bit of modifications... I'm just saying, that in the current stage, I think if they decided to release it as-is, it has the very real potential of being more stable than phpBB2
