ChALkeR: have you considered using one of the AJAX php servers? Such as phpfreechat, Chategory, or Chatr? It seems it would be much easier working off an already working system and just implementing the user logon part.

Hm. About AJAX, I used xajax... And to the chat code, I've already made it work when created this topic. It uses more phpBB features than just the logon part.

Since I couldn't find any AJAX chat mod's available, I created one already.

I'm working on another version, which I'm still adding features to... it works with these browsers:
IE
Safari
Mozilla
FireFox
Camino
Opera

It's not uploaded at the moment so you can't see it.

This ChatBox uses Javascript Objects that can not be seen in your version of Internet Explorer, This page is best viewed with FireFox wich can be downloaded Free for Windows or Macintosh here

most of us use IE

I have a feature list that I'm adding to the new version (which is IE compatible).

I've seen Tannies (good thing to, because the link you provided was taken out)... not the code thankfully, just the design.
