Will 3.0 have better SQL backup and restore functions?

Post by BondGamer »

I am hoping that phpBB 3 will have better SQL backup and restore functions. The current functions are ok if you have a small forum. But my database is almost 100MB and it is a real pain to restore. Some things I would like to see:

-- Save tables in different files
-- Split backup into specified size files (Example: each file 1MB)
-- Backup only new data since last database backup

You can't tell I just had to do a backup/restore in 2.0 did you :D

ala community coding projects wrote: Backup/restore with modular file transfer system - The current backup system deployed in phpBB3 is a step beyond what phpBB2 offered. However it would be nice to take it further still with support for all databases phpBB itself supports, further options ala phpMyAdmin (but without resorting to canabalising phpMyAdmin!). It would also be nice to allow users to upload/download backups via methods other than http. For example, ftp, scp, etc. Going further still a modularised system for file upload/download could be examined and utilised elsewhere within phpBB. Of prime concern here is security and compatability.

Thats basically all the general public know i believe.. the devs/phpbb team may be able to shed some mroe light on this.. Even if it is just to say if anyone took up that project..

Hope that helps.. Yawnster
