upgrading a modded 3.x

I'm lucky as all the mods I have will become useless as most of the features will be part of Olympus core (attachement, read/unread, subforums, passworded forums, templating by forum, keep smilies moving, etc...) so the easier thing for me (and I guess it's the best for everyone) will be a clean fresh install of Olympus, then a sql insert of the users/groups/posts/pm data (+some more, will see)

A great tool I saw in cvs version is the search re-indexing. that was a so huge table in the past, it was awful to work with sql with that (however a mod for that does exist for 2.0.x).

Looking forward to the release, I begun to play on templating (actually only imagesets, and css) with the cvs version, and found it very easy! Great work!

thanks for the answers untill now! but i think some people don't understand what i meant

i mean:

- i have a phpbb3.0 forum installed
- than i install some mods
- than phpbb 3.1 comes out
- than i want to install the upgrade

and now comes the question:

it would be nice if phpbb logged all actions which are made during modding the phpbb3.0. in that case, the board could (when upgrading to 3.1) upgrade files which haven't been touched by mods. and for the other files, it could promt the admin that those files are modded, so the mods could be broken of it would be upgraded to 3.1

it would be nice if the board could help the admin this way, that was what i meant

You could easily create a log of all the files that you've modified.

Learn to use diff, patch and cvs. It really help you getting track of the versions/upgradings.

No, but theres one for PHP.

PHP works independantly of the OS.

Trust me, you wont want to run 3.1 in a production enviro. Unix versioning system means that .1 is a beta.

Unix has nothing to do with the version numbers. All credits about the version numbering goes to LINUX kernel.
