What does the development team want from us?

Post by FBtjuh »

How am I supposed to test phpBB2 if the install script doesn't work? I know I can't report bugs, but this has been the case for several months now.. Every now and then I update the files with CVS to see if it finally works, but it never does.. :(

The problem with the install script is, that I don't see any words, so I don't know what I have to enter in the different fields..

You're not supposed to test phpBB. It's development code, very incomplete, and pretty much useless. If they wanted you to test (which they will once beta comes), then they would want bug reports, which they do not.

With that said, the installer has worked perfectly for me for the past twenty or so times I have installed CVS (most recent was probably a week ago). Even if it hadn't, since a requirement for downloading CVS is a thorough understanding of PHP and SQL, I would be able to fix it :)

As already noted by DeadEye686, the code is still in development and testing/reporting bugs is not wanted by the developers yet. When the code enters the BETA stage, an announcement will be made and bug reporting will be opened up. :)

Uhh, what do you want from the development team?

This has been said before: If you don't know about PHP to get into the code and (temporarily) fix things for yourself, don't download CVS!

It's not even beta software, where did you get the idea that it SHOULD work?

For the record, I've downloaded phpBB 2.2.... 3.0.0 CVS several times and installation has worked every time.

It has come to my attention that the installation only worked on my webserver running linux.
If I try to install it running apache in windows, it didn't work.

It's just something that I noticed, so I'm not complaining or reporting an error or something ;)

Don't worry, that's a feature, not a bug. ;)

Is that temporary or permanent?

I don't get it? PHP software should be OS independant...
