There is technically a stage before alpha called gamma.

I'm clearly misinformed then, but I'm quite aware of the Greek alphabet. Something seemed wrong where I read it and I stand corrected.

SHS` and Not Radio are both correct; Although alpha is the first letter of the Greek Alphabet, the MySQL AB does use Gamma for the description of "pre-alpha" code.
