How close will templating in 2.2 be to 2.0.x? I know there are additions, such as the ability for php and such, but will it become harder to make layouts?
Also, have the lang files been moved to the template directory so that we can change what it says, or do they remain in the root?

Well you in 2.0.x and I think still in 2.2 you can have images that are loaded depending on language, do you mean something similar but with text?
