Yes - it makes performance better ;)

Anyway there's a config option in there to turn it off whilst developing......

Has the ability to have different themes for different forums been tested? I noticed that in the Forum Management section of the ACP from a snapshot I downloaded last week.

It was tested here for a while somewhere in 2003 when the initial styles system was finished. Don't remember any problems.

Is it reasonably safe to start tinkering with making new styles? Id like to get familiar with the new system so I have a heads up when it goes final.

Im looking for a copy of the latest snapshot. I dont see the links on the main page.

That depends on your definition of reasonably. ;)

Thanx.

By "reasonably" I meant that for the most part, the styling system is what it is. I have a lot of templates I will need to convert over once 3.0 is released, and I want to be familiar with it so by the time the final version is out, converting them all wont take me very long.

I would say to become familiar with it... just try to convert one of your existing styles... *duck_to_avoind_getting_hit_by_the_devs* I think, the basic styles system won't change... there may be changes in the templates, variables etc, but Ih think the styles system itself will mostly stay as it is... e.g. the way applying variables is done, the style is selected, etc...

And no, I don't want to bet my life on it... it's just my thoughts about it...

Yeah, I expect any work I do in converting one of these will have to be redone when the final version is out. But at least if I can be familiar with it, then Ill have an advantage when the real work begins.

Im looking at these files now and it is completley different than phpBB2. Geeez...

Also, all of the files have a ,v after the php extension. Should I delete that or leave it when I install it?

Here is a couple of images of new styles for phpBB3:
Code is based on phpbb3 KISS portal project.

Links (don't want to clutter up the page):

Be preparer to re-code if you build styles as changes are to be expected.
But being familiar with the system might not be a bad idea.

A couple of points re the new template structure:
I have designed themes for almost every version of phpBB/portal and I find phpBB3 styles faster in execution, easier to create and port... Basically my hats off to whoever was responsible for the style updates.
They have made it much easier to work with styles than ever before. (IMHO :))
